Hopefully it gets sorted eventually on all fronts - OpenGL drivers for Mac and anything that Epic can do as well. Bootcamped into Windows 8.1 on the same hardware and the difference is like night and day - it's a joy to use in Windows. Even Tappy Chicken and Swing Ninja don't run at 60fps. It actually slows the whole system performance down - OSX screen zooming even becomes jerky.

Running on a 2014 Retina MBP with the GT 750M graphics and even when only using a 1920x1200 screen resolution with the editor (hooked up to my external monitor which might be a contributing factor for me as the displays are mirrored) it's bordering on unusable.Įnormous mouse lag when panning in the editor, really bad framerates - even just on the FPS template level. Just got the engine and I have to concur - OSX performance is _terrible_ right now (using engine 4.2.0). The main issues here seem to be poorer OpenGL support on the OS X platform, I'm not sure what Epic can do about that. Before, UE was unusable for me on my Mac. Since that video above was uploaded, Epic released 4.1 (they are very fast with updates), and it improved performance significantly. The performance is just better, even on the same machine (at least it was for me). If you have enough storage, I'd recommend installing BootCamp and using UE with Windows. Maybe I can just buy and try it, but just wondering if someone else here maybe tested it.I have a (slightly older) retina MBP too, but I resorted to using my desktop PC for now. When I saw the video I was a bit in doubt for buying the engine yet.
